Målsättningen med projektet är att hjälpa Sudans krigs- och svältdrabbade befolkning att ta egna initiativ för byutveckling. 20 st byar kommer få medel så att de själva organisera sig och besluta om vilka projekt som ska prioriteras på bästa sätt för att få deras by "på fötter igen" efter krigstiden.
Varje by kommer få disponera ca. 10,000 USD, och detta sker i samråd med biståndsorganisationen International Aid Services (IAS). Se nedanför för mer detaljer kring målsättningen, hämtat från Sida/SMR ansökan. De insamlade medel till Sudanprojektet kommer tio-dubblas av Sida innan de omsätts.

The main goal of the project is to reduce the prevalence and severity of poverty amongst conflict affected rural households across Sudan by achieving tangible improvements at the community and local authority level.
The main development effects of this project
The capacity of target communities, Village Development Committees (VDCs), sector-specific management committees, Parent Teacher Associations (PTA), Community Based Organizations (CBO) and women groups are developed to enable communities to plan, implement, manage and maintain community development projects in a sustainable manner.
Indicators
- Quantity and quality of local food and water resources increased by at least 30% for target communities.
- At least 20 successful communities initiated and implemented projects are functioning in a sustainable manner by the end of the project period.
The sub goals depend entirely on the priorities set by the community through its Village Development Committee. Regardless of what requirements the community has the following sub goals will be reached:
- Capacity of target communities VDCs, sector-specific management committees, PTA, CBO and women groups are developed to enable communities to plan, implement, manage and maintain community development projects in a sustainable manner.
- 20 communities implementing and managing sustainable community development projects in partnership with local community based groups and local authorities by the end of the project period.
- Local authorities planning and technical support services are able to meet community needs and expressed priorities successfully and in a sustainable manner.
- Community self-confidence and will for pro-active development restored through community centred activities.
- Intra and inter ethnic peace built with reconciliation and positive socio-economic interactions between populations formerly separated by conflict.
Indicators
- At least 20 communities have active VDCs able to develop community development plans and projects, developed through participatory planning in partnership with local government and supported by local NGOs and CBOs.
- At least 75% of households in target communities benefiting from improved basic services, food security and livelihoods.
- At least 65% of communities satisfied with local authorities support and confident in the ability of local authorities to support community initiated development.
- Community request for development support.
- Community commitment to development.
- At least 80% of returnees are successfully re-integrated into communities.
- Number of ethnic conflict incidents reduced in target communities annually by at least 50% compared with previous year.
