an availability charge (also known as a ”capacity charge”) for the supply of its power plant to the electricity company`s electricity: this covers capital expenditure related to the construction of the plant and its fixed operating expenses; and electricity producers enter into AAEs either bilaterally with a consumer company (”Corporate PPA”) or with an electricity distributor who purchases the electricity generated (”Merchant PPA”). The electricity distributor can continue to supply electricity to an electricity consumer (transform it again into a ”corporate PPA”) or to negotiate electricity on an electricity exchange. Many international groups are already buying shares in their electricity consumption via AAAs or have announced their intention to do so more frequently (see there100.org/re100). They use AAEs to obtain stable and predictable electricity prices. AAEs are an effective way to reduce the risk of electricity prices, particularly for operators of high-investment and low-cost facilities (such as photovoltaic and wind power plants). Since electricity payments are already insured to some extent, facility managers and financial banks may be more confident that revenues from the sale of electricity will effectively cover investment costs. This makes the project more cost-effective in the long run. The benefits of an electricity purchase contract include long-term price security, the ability to finance investments in new power generation capacity, or the reduction of risks associated with electricity sales and purchases. In addition, a specific physical diet can be provided with certain regional characteristics and certain original guarantees. Customers can take this opportunity to make their brand more sustainable and greener. The open end of the proposed contract also creates a great deal of leeway to reflect the preferences of facility operators and electricity consumers.
The same applies to pricing: AAEs can be signed at a fixed price or allow for increased participation in risks and market opportunities. A solar electricity sales contract (PPA) is a financial agreement whereby a developer organizes the planning, approval, financing and installation of a solar installation on the land of a client too little or no cost. The developer sells the electricity produced at a fixed price to the host, which is usually lower than the local distribution company`s retail price. This decrease in the price of electricity is used to compensate for the purchase of electricity from the grid by the customer, while the developer receives the revenues from these electricity sales as well as all tax credits and other incentives of the system. PPAs are typically between 10 and 25 years old and the developer remains responsible for the operation and maintenance of the system for the duration of the agreement. At the end of the PPA contract term, a customer may be able to extend the PPP, have the system removed from the developer or purchase the solar installation from the developer.
